School of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science
The new era of modern higher education in mathematics in the country has been marked by the establishment of the “Department of Mathematics” in 1924. This was part of “Darolmoallemin Ali” (Higher House of Tehran) until 1928. Then it became a section of “Daneshsaraie Ali” (Higher House of Education)
In 1934 the University of Tehran was established and the department continued its activities under the auspices of the university. The department was promoted to the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer science in 2005. At present, the school is active in Undergraduate, Master and Ph.D. programs at four Departments of Pure Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science
As the most dominant institute in higher mathematics, this school had the largest contribution in educating experts in different branches of mathematical science, particularly, in pure mathematics. Several as Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, have been initiated in this school and have been developed along with Pure Mathematics. To justify the leading role of the school in the development of mathematics in the country, it is sufficient to mention that, The majority of the founding members of the Iranian Mathematics society in 1971 were the faculty members of this school. For further promotion, the school launched its master program and Ph.D. program in 1958 and 1988, respectively. Most gradates from this school who are now involved in teaching and research activities throughout the country, have worked on topics in geometry- topology, analysis, algebra, combinatorics, applied mathematics and Computer Science. In 2001, the school was distinguished by the ministry of Science, Research and Technology, center of Excellence. At present a team of researches continue their activities as members of the center of Excellence in Biomathematics
In the new organization which has been initiated 2005, the school operates in four departments:
Department of Pure Mathematics, Department of Applied Mathematics, Department of Statistic and Department of Computer Science. The faculty members amount to 7 Professor, 6 Associate, 9 Assistant Professor and 2 Instructors. The school is equipped with a library with 2500 volume of books, 4 Computer Laboratories serving its students. The students, besides their educational duties, are active in the frome of scientific and student societies
